The summer means a visit to one of the largest floating villages in Halong bay, a ramshackle collection of buildings that include a school, museum and almost a hundred dwellings where the fishermen and their families reside all year round. This unusual way of living only on water and in relative isolation has encouraged a completely unique culture not seen anywhere else in Vietnam. Transfer from the Explorer to a small rowboat to quietly paddle through the village and interact with the locals who reside here. Stop at the largest floating area, which contains the small school and museum where you can learn about everyday life in the village, how this unlikely situation came about and why the locals are fiercely protective over this unique way of living. Climb straight from the Paradise Explorer down to the two-man kayaks and navigate yourself on the remarkably calm waters through intricate cave systems and get up close to the rigid rocks that hide under a blanket of jungle-green, all the while majestic hawks circle above. Pass through a small cave to reveal a spectacular circular pool surrounded by striking mountains and dense jungle. Feel free to take the plunge and have an unforgettable swim in what must surely be one of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful swimming spaces in the world. If lucky you may even spot a spider monkey or two.

Be spoiled with our high tea- a selection of freshly baked pastries and cakes served with tea or coffee at just $8/person.

The seafood in Halong Bay tastes different to anywhere else in Vietnam, or indeed the world, due to the unusual geography of the area. This activity gives you the chance to learn how to make one of Vietnam’s freshest, tastiest and healthiest dishes with our onboard chef while you enjoy a glass of white wine and a glorious sunset. Using only the freshest ingredients, you can take away the recipe and try it out on your family and friends when you get home.
17.30 Arrive back to shore and transfer directly back to Hanoi/Noi Bai international airport.

Excursion

Excursions and Activities around Tuan Chau (all at an additional fee)
Before and after cruising in Halong bay there is a wealth of excursions and activities to do in and around Paradise Suites Hotel. From pampering yourself in our spa to exploring an ancient pagoda up in the mountains to a cooking class with our executive chef, there is something here to excite everyone. An area of Vietnam that traditionally has been unexplored by tourists, Tuan Chau Island and the surroundings actually offer a surprising amount to see and do, and our dedicated travel and tour experts along with our professional guides can arrange everything. Below you will find an extensive list of the excursions and activities on offer. For the more detailed program simply click on the activity

1.Take a moment to pamper yourself at our world-class spa with a wide variety of treatments including massage.
If you are looking to spoil yourself either before or after exploring Halong, head to the international standard spa and browse the wealth of treatments available. Enjoy a full-body ayurvedic massage or an intricate manicure for which the Vietnamese are famous- well deserved after cycling, kayaking and swimming your way through Halong.

2.Rejuvenate body, mind and soul with a tai chi or yoga class.
Our gym and spa has an exercise class programme throughout the day including yoga and tai chi so you can keep fit and energized while you’re away.

3.Visit the local Halong night market to browse for local handicrafts and souvenirs. (evening)
Bai Chay Night Market, open from 6pm until later, makes a pleasant place for a wonder around either before or after your Halong Bay exploration. Find a wide variety of local handicrafts and souvenirs that you can take back for your friends and family, all at a very reasonable price.
Bai Chay Night Market is a 10-minute taxi ride from Paradise Suites Hotel.

4.Enjoy a tall glass of red or white or a perhaps a whiskey on the rocks while listening to soothing notes from our live band.
Our live band will be playing smooth tunes every evening with a selection of jazz, soul and blues. Sit back and relax in our wine bar or whiskey gallery and let the music sooth your soul.

5.Relax on the beach and view Halong bay from afar with water sports available off shore.
Tuan Chau Beach, from where you can view Halong Bay from afar, is white, sandy and with plenty of activities. There are restaurants, bars and water sports available.
Tuan Chau Beach is walking distance (10 minutes) from Paradise Suites Hotel but we can also arrange private transport if required.

6.Set sail in a local fishing boat with a local fisherman- eat what you catch onboard or bring back for our restaurants to prepare! (half-day tour)
Take to Halong Bay with a local fisherman and see what lies beneath these calm and tranquil waters. Fishing has been a way of life for centuries here and continues to this day. Even with the influx of tourism it is still the most important income source for the majority of the inhabitants of Halong. Our English-speaking guide will accompany you and translate so you can ask the fisherman about life on the bay. After finding your catch, grill it there and then on the boat with the fisherman or bring it back to be prepared by our chef at the hotel restaurant.
The local fishing boats can pick you up nearby and this tour lasts for 3-4 hours, though of course we can shorten or extend this time if you prefer. English-speaking guide included.

7.Explore the Halong fish market and partake in a cooking class with our executive chef. (half-day tour)
This interesting and engaging tour sees you visit the local fish market with our executive chef to have a look at all the fish and seafood on offer. Design the three-course menu there and then with our chef with fresh fish, seafood, fruit and vegetables. Take back what you’ve bought to cook with the chef at the hotel and take home the recipes. There are two markets to choose from- the small, local Bai Chay market and the larger, busier Halong market.
Bai Chay market is a ten minute drive while Halong market is about 30 minutes by car. Our chef speaks English so you will be able to communicate directly with him and he will also act as your culinary guide. This makes a good half-day tour and includes the lunch or dinner that you cook.

8. Try your hand at some farming with the locals on Tuan Chau Island. (half-day tour)
A significant amount of Tuan Chau is still devoted to farmlandand this trip takes you out with the farmers to see (and experience) what and how they farm. Our knowledgeable English-speaking guide will be able to explain and translate making for a personalized, interesting and local experience.
This half day tour usually lasts for 2-3 hours but of course this can be flexible and up to you. English-speaking included.

9.Cycle around Tuan Chauisland and visit the friendly village.
Tuan Chau Island makes for a pleasant cycle. The beautiful karst mountains of Halong Bay are seen from almost everywhere and you will always be able to spot local fishing boats sailing the tranquil seas.
This can be done at any time of day for as long as you like.

10. Ascend the mountains by cable car to visit Yen Tu Pagoda which dates back centuries. (half-day tour)
Up high in the mountains, Yen Tu Pagoda is one of Northeast Vietnam’s most important religious sites, yet still remains largely unvisited by tourists. Dating back centuries and architecturally and religiously significant, our tour guide will be able to explain the history, architecture and why this is a religious pilgrimage for so many. The Pagoda can be combined with a hike of the beautiful and dramatic surroundings to make a full day trip. Alternatively you can take a cable car.
Yen Tu can be visited as a full day trip, which includes a 2-3 hour trek up the mountain for those that are feeling energetic. For a half-day trip it is best to take the cable car. We will happily arrange a lunch box if required.

11. Discover Cat Ba Island, just a 45-minute ferry ride away, full of hiking, cycling and opportunities to visit local villages. (full-day tour))
Tuan Chau is just a 45-minute ferry ride from Cat Ba Island, making it one of the most convenient places from which to reach this National Park. The island is becoming increasingly popular due to the wealth of activities available including hiking, cycling, swimming and visiting local villages. A trip to Cat Ba makes a great day trip which you can customize yourself according to what you want to do.
* If you can’t find exactly what you are looking for here then we can do our very best to tailor-make something just for you. Get in touch and one of our dedicated travel specialists will be able to help.
